ACCRINGTON Stanley have handed Nigerian midfielder Abel Ighofose a month-long trial at the Crown Ground.

The little-known 20-year-old, whose brother plays in Russia, wrote to Stanley asking for the chance to break into English football.

And Reds' boss John Coleman plans to put Ighofose through his paces before the Conference season begins in early August.

Coleman said: "The boy wrote asking for a trial a few weeks ago and we are happy to see what he can do after glancing at his CV.

"We have an open door policy at the club and rightly so, because if you don't take a look, you could be turning away a good proposition.

"The lad will be earning his keep by doing some work at the club, so this is in everyone's interest and hopefully we'll unearth a decent little player."

Coleman has already been busy this summer as he prepares Stanley for their inaugural season in the top flight of non-league football, adding Gordon Armstrong and Paul Cook.

And they are also in the hunt for a keeper to compete for the number one jersey with Jamie Speare.

Coleman added: "We have strengthened the squad with one or two signings so far, but we are not finished yet and if we can add another couple, I feel we'll have a good, solid squad."
