YOUNGSTERS are being warned they could face prosecution this summer if they are caught on school grounds without authority.
The warning comes as part of a police crackdown on criminal damage at schools across Padiham.
Community Beat Officers and response officers will be paying regular visits to all schools across the town in a bid to deter youths from damaging property.
Extra patrols -- some involving the Lancashire Police helicopter -- are often carried out during the summer holiday period.
However, this latest police crackdown is in direct response to concerns from schools and their local residents.
Padiham Community Beat Manager Derek Mitchell, said: "Criminal damage is a real cause for concern for us -- and for local schools.
"We've had a number of cases recently where youths, clambering on roofs or trespassing on school property, have caused hundreds of pounds-worth of damage and risked injury to themselves.
"This behaviour won't be tolerated.
"Anyone caught on school property without authority will be challenged by local officers and put on our Youth Referral System.
"Anyone found to have caused damage will be prosecuted."
PC Mitchell appealed for help from the local community, urging residents and school staff to support the police action.
He said: "I would urge schools to warn their pupils about the clampdown before they break up for the summer holiday period and ask their pupils to respect school property.
"I would also urge parents to keep a close eye on their children over the summer holiday period. Our schools are part of our community and we all need to work together to protect them."
PC Mitchell added: "The last thing we want to do is prosecute youngsters, but if that is what it takes to prevent damage to school property, then we will have no choice."
