SCARLETT'S Stride, the annual 12 mile walk/run around Cliviger, will take place on Saturday September 21.

An event of this kind needs an extensive team of volunteers for its organisation, and anyone interested in helping can contact the organisers, Eric and Kath Wrathall, on 459136. The event is sponsored by Shanks Deerplay Landfill and all proceeds go to St John's Church, Cliviger.

THE parish council are to raise their concerns with Burnley Council Planning Department over the application for creation of an ecology centre at Green Clough Wood. Although itthe parish council welcomes projects which bring employment and activities into the parish it is felt that the site for the proposed centre is not in keeping with the immediate environment.

THE Vicar of St John's Cliviger, Lawrence Laycock, recently took part in an abseil down the tower of St Leonard's Church, Padiham. Along with a number of other volunteers, he was raising money for the preservation of the tower. On Tuesday 5 August he will also take part in a 40-mile sponsored bike ride along the canal bank, to raise funds for St John's.

CLIVIGER Brownies have been busy during June. They planted four tubs which have been given to St John's Church, went on a trip to the bowling alley in Burnley and held a 'keep fit' night. For their last meeting before the summer break, they will visit HAPPA and sponsor a horse.

THE summer outing for the Mothers' Union was to the Cobbled Corner at Chipping, where members and friends enjoyed a meal. Tonight they will visit Whalley Abbey for a service conducted by Rev Jim Holt, followed by supper.
