A LATE night dispute in Clitheroe town centre resulted in Tony Stevenson "lamping" another man, a court was told.
But when Stevenson came into court sporting a black eye, Blackburn magistrates heard that rough justice had already been meted out by associates of the victim.
Stevenson, 20, of Central Avenue, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to assaulting Robert Seed. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £100 compensation and £50 costs.
Neil White, prosecuting, said there had been an earlier incident in Clitheroe Social Club involving a friend of Mr Seed's girlfriend and Stevenson.
As Mr Seed and his girlfriend were walking home they saw Stevenson and the girlfriend went over and asked him why he had upset her friend.
Words were exchanged and when Mr Seed intervened on his girlfriend's behalf he was punched in the face.
Ian Holland, defending, said Stevenson had been assaulted on Saturday night by an associate of Mr Seed.
