COLNE landlady Pat Sharkey crossed the Pennines in search of a new venture and everything turned out 'rosy'.

For the 52-year-old host at the Commercial Hotel on Skipton Road has put her Red Rose allegiances to one side to take up the reins at Halifax hostelry The Bull's Head.

However, one foot will remain firmly rooted in Pendle as Pat, who has worked for Blackburn brewers Daniel Thwaites for five years, intends to oversee the smooth running of both houses.

The mother-of-three, who is originally from Rishton, said: "It will certainly be a fine balancing act. Manageress Angela Gillam will remain in control at the Commercial so I have peace of mind that matters will be in safe hands."

Pat and partner John Sanderson were voted regional landlord and landlady of the year for 2002.
