WHAT right had the county council to call the police to evict one of their own representatives from attending a residents' meeting at Northlands care home, Great Harwood (LET, June 26)?
Surely, County Councillor George Slynn was only representing the interests of the residents and should have had a right to speak up on a debate that could effect the lives of all the elderly residents.
County councillors are democratically elected to represent their constituents, but this action shows that certain county councillors are acting like dictators over the closure of homes throughout East Lancashire, with no-one having the right to representation or free speech over the issue on the future of our care homes, which has brought stress and anxiety to many of our elderly.
They just don't deserve it. If these are the actions of democratically-elected members, then the sooner they resign the better.
I have no political interest or close elderly relatives or friends in care, but feel that the actions of the county council have been totally unjustified and heavy-handed. Elected members just don't seem to listen or care any more and I don't just speak for myself on this.
