A PUB bouncer was 'bottled' and knocked to the floor bleeding after he went out socialising after work, a jury heard.

Burnley Crown Court was told how Duncan Edwards was then said to have been booted in the face by a second man after the first alleged attacker ran off.

Matthew Salmons, 34, of Hill Street, Colne, denies assault causing actual bodily harm, last December.

Co-defendant Martin Matthews, who was said to have kicked Mr Edwards, was found not guilty of assault after the prosecution offered no further evidence.

He was discharged from the dock by Judge Raymond Bennett.

June Morris, prosecuting, told the court Mr Edwards worked at the Union Exchange pub in Colne.

He finished work and went to the Tower Bar in the town. At about 2am, he came across a man he knew as 'Mat' and the prosecution said that was Matthew Salmons.

Salmons appeared to have a grudge against the alleged victim for not letting him in the Union Exchange. The defendant said to Mr Edwards words to the effect: "Do you want to have a go, now?"

Mr Edwards said he was just having a drink with friends but the defendant responded by saying: "Have some of this" and hit the complainant on the head with a bottle.

Miss Morris said Mr Edwards fell to the floor with blood coming from his head. He looked up and saw the person he knew as Mat running away.

Mr Edwards suffered several small cuts to the top of his head, discomfort and soreness.

Salmons was arrested.

When he was interviewed, he admitted being at the Tower Bar but claimed he was acting in self-defence when he used the bottle.
