COUNCIL bosses are to consult residents about plans for some of Burnley's most deprived areas

Consultations will be held on the Neighbourhood Action Plans for the areas, including Burnley Wood, Daneshouse and Stoneyholme and South West Burnley.

Council leader Stuart Caddy said: "The Neighbourhood Action Plans we develop for the first three priority areas are just part of the picture. The process will be rolled out to other parts of Burnley and Padiham in future.

"This will be accompanied by projects and activities in other parts of town as well. We are committed to tackle problems of low demand housing and social issues so that there will be a rise in confidence and prosperity in the borough as a whole."

The plans will contribute to Elevate, the Government's multi-million pound programme of housing, environmental and social renewal, through which almost £900,000 has been made available for the Burnley initiative.

Coun Caddy added: "Our discussions at the next executive meeting will be about how we can take the next steps forward in making the most of the opportunity which Elevate presents to our borough."

If the proposals are agreed, the consultations will run in the areas from July 21 to the end of August.

Mike Waite, of the council's market and community renewal team, said: "This work will build on previous consultation exercises.

"We've heard what people have told us before in one-off sessions and meetings. The aim now is to pull everything together into a shared vision of how these important areas should develop over the coming years.

"Once people's ideas are put forward into the Elevate strategic plan, our team will make sure residents are kept informed of progress."
