IN EAST Lancashire there is a multitude of community groups and charitable organisations which make life better for thousands of people.
But these organisations would be nothing without the hardworking volunteers who give their time freely to enable them to carry out that work.
Our fourth Pride of East Lancashire award for Outstanding Volunteer, sponsored by Holland's Pies, is designed to reward these people for their selfless actions.
There are some fantastic individuals who have made an enormous difference to other people's lives.
And this award gives you, the reader, the opportunity to nominate such people who serve the community and expect nothing in return.
Although they give their time without expectation of reward, Jane Roberts, of Blackburn with Darwen Volunteer Bureau, says volunteering does benefit both sides.
She said: "Volunteers can gain many things from a positive volunteering experience.
"It gives volunteers the opportunity to learn new skills, use their existing skills and expertise, develop new interests, meet people, become active in bringing about social change and the opportunity to get involved.
"Volunteers of all kinds are extremely important to organisations as they bring new skills, new perspectives, enthusiasm and diversity."
As with all 11 Pride of East Lancashire Awards nominations must be received by September 30.
The winner of the Outstanding Volunteer award will receive a £2,000 holiday and £1,000 cash.
