I REFER to your recent article and subsequent letter from Cllr John Harrison regarding the 'Teenmeet' shelter at Skerton.
We all share concerns about the negative behaviour of a minority of young people, and in this particular case the reported youth nuisance problems that were occurring in the Skerton area.
The 'Teenmeet' project resulted from the Lancashire Association of Clubs for Young People (LACYP) being invited to join a group including the police, tenants association, youth and community, leisure services, community safety and young people.
We are a voluntary youth charity with limited resources but nevertheless determined to help create positive opportunities for local communities and their young people.
The Teenmeet is a genuine attempt to provide something positive in response to an identified 'problem'.
Through our association's three mobile activity centres, outreach and mentoring programmes along with sporting and outdoor activities, we have enjoyed success by working together in other communities in Lancaster and Morecambe.
We do not have all the answers but know that to do nothing for young people is not an option. If we wish to produce a next generation of responsible citizens then we all need to invest in young people.
Should anyone be interested in helping with our work then we will be pleased to hear from them.
Alan M Donkin, Director, Lancashire Association of Clubs for Young People.
