GREENMOUNT stook advantage of the glorious weekend weather to further their ambitions on two fronts.

On Saturday they blasted themselves into third place in the BOLTON LEAGUE table after a convincing 19-run victory over Farnworth Social Circle at Brandlesholme Road.

The evergreen Gary Chadwick proved to be the kingpin in the village side's innings cracking a superb 86, and, ably assisted by professional Robin Morris (35) and Fasil Lone (41) this proved to be the backbone of the 226 for 7 total.

But Social Circle weren't to be daunted and at 199 for 6 with eight over remaining they must have fancied their chances.

It wasn't to be as they collapsed, losing their last five wickets inside two crucial overs.

Paceman Mark Stewart proved to be their undoing with 6 wickets for 59.

On Sunday Bolton League rivals Horwich were the visitors in the Lancashire Knockout.

With Chadwick unavailable Jimmy Horrox was recalled to the side after his Cretan break and proved that the Aegian sun had done him good.

The all-rounder hit 64 and partner Andy Bowker 62 in a fine opening partnership that gave Greenmount a great start.

A slight wobble in mid innings slowed the scoring down until Neil Kay - unbeaten on 23 - and Dave Senior took the game by the scruff of the neck and the villagers' total to 223 for 9.

It was never going to be Horwich's day after they lost opener Steve Woods with a horrific head injury trying to pull a delivery from Stewart.

And when dangerous professional David White was dismissed by Stuart Leach the writing was on the wall and in the end the Railwaymen were 51 runs short of what was required.

Greenmount now travel to Ormskirk of the Liverpool Competition in the quarter-finals at a date to be arranged.
