A 34 YEAR-old man is facing a jail term after "bottling" an off-duty bouncer and knocking him to the floor, bleeding, as he was socialising after work.
Matthew Salmons, was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm by a Burnley Crown Court jury, after a three-day trial.
He was remanded in custody until August 15, for a pre-sentence report, by Judge Raymond Bennett.
The defendant, of Hill Street, Colne, had denied the charge and claimed although he had used a bottle on victim Duncan Edwards, it had been in self defence.
June Morris, prosecuting, had told the jury Mr Edwards, a doorman at Colne's Union Exchange pub, had gone into the Tower Bar in the town after work.
In the early hours, he was approached by the defendant, who appeared to have a grudge against him for not letting him into the Union Exchange.
Salmons asked the victim: "Do you want to have a go now?" Mr Edwards said he was just having a drink with friends but the defendant responded by saying : "Have some of this," and then struck him on the head with the bottle.
Mr Edwards fell to the floor, blood coming from his head, and looked up to see Salmons running away.
He suffered several small cuts to the top of his head, discomfort and soreness.
Salmons was arrested.
When he was interviewed, Salmons admitted being at the Tower Bar but claimed he was acting in self defence when he used the bottle.
