APPARENTLY I AM a "yuppie", as I am a resident of Affetside. Exactly how I can be classed as a yuppie at just 16 years of age is beyond my comprehension, but I will bow to the superior experience of "Otago" (Your Letters, June 20).
Not only am I a yuppie, I am also a former pupil of that terrible drain on council resources, Affetside Primary School. After all, an establishment which produced a current children's television presenter, a leading athlete, and one of the region's most promising actresses must surely be a complete waste of time and money.
However, it is not the fate of Affetside School that I want to comment on. Instead, I am writing to state the case for Mrs Dawn Robinson-Walsh who, according to "Otago", is not a resident of the borough and therefore not entitled to add her voice to a debate which affects her children. Furthermore, "Otago" seems to hold Mrs Robinson-Walsh responsible for the legal battle over the closure of this school.
The unfortunately doomed campaign to save the school was, indeed, driven in part by Mrs Robinson-Walsh as she and others connected with the school valiantly fought against overwhelming odds and came within a High Court ruling of victory.
The fact that Mrs Robinson-Walsh does not live in Bury is not a reason to criticise her; indeed, she should be commended for the way she responded to the plight of her children's school.

Watling Street, Affetside.
