TEENAGERS in Brandlesholme are to be consulted by Bury Council over an idea to provide a special meeting point for them.
Residents living near to the site of the former Brandlesholme CP School have experienced problems with anti-social behaviour. Now Bury's youth service, along with other agencies, hopes to provide the young people with somewhere to go.
The former school site, in Brandlesholme Road, has been earmarked for the meeting place, which would take the form of a permanent shelter.
John Slater, Bury West area co-ordinator, said: "There have been a number of incidents concerning us, involving young people in the area, and the youth service now hopes to provide something for them."
Now, prospective users of the shelter are to be consulted about the idea.
Bury Council also hopes to engage the group in a photography programme linked to the Lifelong Learning scheme in Bury. The project was allocated £200 funding from the Kickstart grant at Monday night's area board meeting.
Mr Slater said: "We will be taking some time to ask the teenagers what they would actually like. We want to know what we can give them. The scheme will also be discussed at the next area board meeting to give the community a chance to put forward their ideas."
The school was closed in July 2000 because of falling pupil numbers.
