STAN Ternent hopes to have his new-look Burnley jigsaw in place within a fortnight.

The Clarets chief has already been one of the busiest managers on the circuit this summer by snapping up three of his top targets.

I understand more hush-hush negotiations are planned for this weekend as Ternent tries to slot more pieces into the puzzle.

And he hopes to have the complete picture in place by the time Burnley set sail for the Isle of Man Football Festival in two weeks time.

Ternent revealed: "I still don't feel I have anything like a team yet and that's why Dimitrios Papadopoulos had to move this week to try and generate some funds.

"I certainly need four or five more players in, that's for sure. But I'll get them!"

He added: "In years gone by, I have signed players after the Isle of Man trip and this year, a lot of managers are only just be coming back to work.

"But I hope things will be sorted in the next fortnight because matches are important and I need the team to be playing.

"We have three games in the Isle of Man, we go to Accrington on the 30th and then we have Leeds and Birmingham, so there are quite a few games to come for the lads and I want to bed them in."

Ternent is aware his mettle will be tested to the limit by the scramble for new players. A stagnant summer of transfer activity has only just begun to show signs of gathering speed, since many players' contracts only expired on July 1.

And with Burnley's first team squad due to begin pre-season training in earnest on Monday morning, Ternent is keen to hit the ground running.

"This is a transitional time for us and every other club outside the Premiership," he added.

"It's the first time so many players have been left unemployed and the first time in a long time that clubs are in the driving seat.

"There's no transfer market any more - and even the likes of Ipswich find themselves having to let a player like Matt Holland go for £m.

"He's a current international footballer and you would think there would have been an auction for someone of his calibre.

"But it's a financial exercise, as well as getting a competitive team., so we'll see what we can achieve."
