A CAMPAIGN to encourage pupils to behave on school buses has been hailed a huge success by local police.
Youngsters at Haslingden High School Specialist Arts College, Broadway, have been given lessons in learning to behave when on public transport.
Police Community Support Officer Christine Longworth was at the school yesterday morning to give a presentation and present awards for a poster competition.
Pupils from year seven have been taking part in the initiative and have received tutorial lessons on safer travel.
PCSO Longworth said: "I have been working alongside Pauline Thompson, of Lancashire Safer Travel Unit, for the past two or three months.
"We visited the school to deliver a talk, with interactive video, on How To Behave On School Buses."
"Since I have been doing this and the bus ride-alongs, there has not been one incident of anti-social behaviour of any kind, which shows that the initiative is working and the pupils are taking notice."
Lynn Platt, Head of Lower School, said: "Chris Longworth has been working with the pupils over several weeks.
"The work culminated in a competition for the pupils to write an essay and design a poster to encourage good behaviour while travelling on public transport.
"The pupils have really enjoyed taking part in the initiative which gave them a chance to communicate their thoughts through the competition."
Winners of the competition were Year Seven pupils Rose Curness and Nikki Murphy.
