ENGLAND running ace Lee Hurst raced to Bury to hand out medals at the borough's annual schools athletics championships.
Lee is a track, road and cross-country middle-distance runner with medals for England at a variety of events.
He came to Bury as part of a new Sport England initiative to send stars into the community and inspire youngsters to fulfil their sporting potential.
All 14 Bury high schools took part in the event at the Market Street track and, for the first time, competed against students from Bury Grammar School.
The overall winners were:
Year 7, Boys: St Monica's High School, Prestwich: Year 7; Girls: Tottington High School and Parrenthorn High School, Prestwich (joint winners); Year 8/9, Boys: Bury Grammar School; Year 8/9, Girls: Bury Grammar School; Year 10/11, Boys: Philips High School, Whitefield; Year 10/11, Girls: Phillips High School; Overall winners: Philips High School.
