A LAST-GASP try from inspirational captain Lisa Foley guided Primet to victory in the annual Burnley and Pendle Schools rugby league championship.
The Primet captain crashed over the line late in the game to force a 12-12 draw with Fisher More to claim the title.
The under 14s round-robin contest included four teams from across the boroughs with Primet and Fisher More joined by Park High School and, for the first time, St Hilda's High School from Burnley.
Fisher More went in to the contest as reigning champions and, as the championship panned out, their last match proved to be a winner-takes-all showdown with Primet.
Primet boasted a 100 per cent record following victories against Park High and St Hilda's so all the pressure was on Fisher More who had beaten St Hilda's but were held to a draw by Park.
In a tense final match of the tournament, the lead switched hands several times. But it was Fisher More who appeared to be heading for their second successive title until Foley's late intervention made sure it was Primet who lifted the trophy.
The winning Primet team also included Faye McCammon, who was named as one of the players of the tournament, Katie Doney, Alison Lonsdale, Toni Collinson, Natalie Sanderson and Tanya Stead.
Other players who were named as players of the tournament were Park's Lauren Beckett, Charlotte Selby of Fisher Moore and Jessica Hargreaves of St Hilda's.
The competiton was the culmination of a coaching programme in four schools with 50 girls taking part in the Seedhill event.
Many of the girls who took part in the event were later selected to represent Burnley and Pendle at under 13s level at the Lancashire Youth Games. Pendle won that competition comprehensively with Burnley sharing second place with South Ribble.
Pendle has proved to be something of a hot bed for rugby league talent over the past couple of years and several of the girls have gone on to join Pendle Panthers. Coaches Steve Swann and Kelly Fergeson believe the talent exhibited will form the basis of excellent teams at under 13s and 14s next season.
