For Asian women, having an arranged marriage is one thing.
Being forced into an arranged marriage is quite another. I am writing to express my anger at the parents of one of my closest friends, who are forcing her into marriage abroad.
May I remind parents that forcing their children abroad without their consent will be seen by English Law Enforcement agencies as kidnapping, and it will be dealt with regardless of religion, race. If there are any young people in this situation you must act, you can contact a women's refuge centre, these are funded by the government and there are some really nice places.
If anyone has been forced into marriage overseas, you may wish to call the community Liaison Unit on 020 7008 0230 but you must be prepared to make public the fact that you do not want you partner to join you in the UK.
