A DISABLED car owner has been left with no transport and a hefty bill after vandals sprayed his car with a corrosives.
On Sarturday night 58 year-old Tommy Grimshaw parked his green Ford Ka on Johnson Street in Tyldesley town centre and went for a drink. He returned by taxi to his Barton Street home and the following morning returned to Johnson Street where he was shocked to find his car had been badly damaged and the paintwork wrecked.
Now the cost of repairing the car could run into thousands -- and he has been warned the car could be an insurance write-off.
Mr Grimshaw, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis in his legs and hips, said: "I cannot understand why anyone would do this, and what pleasure do they get out of vandalising someone's car. I was going to travel to North Wales to visit my relatives on Sunday but I had to cancel that trip because of these idiots. I rely on that car to get me out and about -- but while it's being repaired I'm going to have to take taxis, which is going to cost me money I cannot afford to spend."
PC Vicky Handley, based at Tyldesley, said: "There had been a spate of incidents where cars were being vandalised with corrosive materials during the Christmas period."
Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555555.
