AN accidental death verdict has been recorded on a 92-year-old man who had sustained injuries to the head.
Alfred Evans' heart condition, the head injuries and a fractured femur had all conspired together, a coroner said.
Mr Evans of Coronation Avenue, Padiham, died from bleeding over the surface of the brain.
An inquest at Preston heard that he also had very severe heart disease.
Nephew Graham Evans, of Todmorden Road, Bacup said his uncle would spend every other weekend with his father George.
In April he spoke of having had a fall, then had a fall in the street on Todmorden Road.
On Sunday, April 27 his uncle was taken to Burnley hospital following an apparent seizure.
While in hospital he had a further fall and was transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital for surgery.
He died there on May 26.
Consultant pathologist Dr Tim Dawson said he thought Mr Evans would have had a head injury at some point and that the bleeding had begun to heal.
However, any further knocks would cause more bleeding.
Mr Evans had very severe heart disease and a fractured femur.
