LIBERAL Democrat Mike Turner ( Citizen July 3rd) really should get his facts right before committing them to public scrutiny.
I am delighted to inform him that following the UK Independence Party's ( UKIP ) Political Slot on Channel 4 recently, we have recruited many new members on the Fylde Coast.
The 'obscure politician' to whom Mike Turner refers in his rambling contribution was Dick Morris who was largely responsible for the successful political campaign that saw Bill Clinton enter the White House.
He was a close political advisor to Bill Clinton during his presidential term and is now the chief Political advisor /reporter on the staff of Fox news. He is advising us on our Euro Elections Campaign next June.
Contrary to Mike's assertions that the US is against the EU or perceives it as a stumbling block, (to world domination presumably?) the US administration has been a supporter of the EU since the 1950s and in particular of the UK's position within it. America yearns for the day when 'Europe' can stand on its own feet.
Twice this century the US has helped bail out Europe from wholesale destruction. Who was it that came to the Europe's rescue recently during the break up of Yugoslavia and the mayhem that ensued in Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia and Macedonia?
Ah yes... the Americans! Re: 'public transport utter shambles'
The UK is signed up to the European Union's Common Transport Policy. Everything from congestion charging to railway infrastructure regulations now originate from the EU; any rewriting of transport policy is likely to be nothing more than a re-phrasing to disguise the fact that the Government's hands are tied. Mike, find yourself a copy of the European Union's Common Transport Policy white paper, '2010 and Beyond, A time to decide' (COM 370,Sept 2001)
You can read it as you wait for the bus or train that doesn't turn up or as you sit in a traffic jam. You might even learn something.
The only Presidency Blair is interested in is of the European Union, for that he would sell his own Grandmother but it will probably be this country that is sacrificed... unless we can prevent him of course!
Val Cowell , Chairman, UKIP Fylde Coast
