FOR once I actually believe the chairman of Bury Football Club, John Smith, when he announces that the sale of Michael Nelson will be the last of the summer.
This, however, is not because I believe the chairman would refuse it if an offer for a player was received, but because with the sale of Nelson and the departure of John Newby, there are no longer any saleable assets left at the club!
It is absolutely disgraceful that Nelson has been sold for a pittance after last year when probably the best goalkeeper outside the Premier League was loaned out to Sheffield United and ultimately sold, again for a pittance.
The club has sold a superb young centre half, who I believe will be every bit as good as Chris Lucketti and Paul Butler, and, more irritatingly, have sold him to a club no bigger than Bury. Bury fans quite often get criticised; however, at times like this, I do not think the club deserves them.
I have not yet purchased my season ticket and, unfortunately for Bury Football Club, I will be keeping my weekly £16 in my pocket next season. Over the years I have threatened to do this many times before but always returned. But not this time.
M. MASON,
Holcombe Brook, Bury.
