THE SLEEPY JACKSON: Lovers

NOW don't be put off by the fact they're Australian, this is a wonderfully melodic offering which is well worth a listen. The country and folk influences are obvious but there's a haunting lyrical appeal to this album which makes it stand out from the crowd and when they need to they can rock with the best of them. JA

MORCHEEBA: Parts of the Process

ONE of the pioneers of soulful dance it's easy to forget Morcheeba but this greatest hits under a different name should put that right. The excellent Rome Wasn't Built In A Day is a stand-out for me but there's 18 songs to enjoy on this CD which should win new converts. JA

THE STAR SPANGLES: Bazooka!!!

IT'S somehow fitting that this cheeky bunch of Ramones clones need three exclamation marks in the title of their debut album as subtlety doesn't seem to fit in with their way of doing things. Riotous riffs and high speed pop combine to be mildly entertaining, but you do get the feeling you've heard it all before. JA

DOMINIC MILLER: Shapes

AND now for something completely different -- a touch of the classical guitars from a windswept looking Dominic. Before you ask who, he's the one who played guitar on Sting's Shape of My Heart (which is on this CD). It's a funny collection in some ways with the theme from Once Upon A Time In America sharing space with Bach, Placido Domingo and Ave Maria sung by Clannad's Moya Brennan. Purists will no doubt hate it. I thought it made great background music. JA
