POLICE have launched a search for a 'dishevelled' woman after reports she was seen huddled on the ground next to a remote road.
Officers and the police helicopter searched the area after a couple reported seeing the woman struggling to get off the ground with her clothes hanging off and a large, muscular man standing next to her.
The incident was reported at 8.50pm yesterday by a couple driving along Brokenstone Road, Tockholes, towards the junction with Gib Lane, who spotted a red saloon-style car near the entrance to Yew Tree Farm.
They saw a man aged between 30 and 35 by the car as a woman, appearing to be in a dazed state, was trying to stand up.
Her clothing was described as "dishevelled" and she was wearing a pale blouse, open at the front which may have been ripped.
The couple believe they may have seen another woman in the car and heard the man shout abuse at a passer-by.
DC Mark Lee of Blackburn CID said: "A large number of police went to the scene and the police helicopter scoured the surrounding fields, but the car had gone.
"We'd like to hear from any witnesses, including the passer-by, or the man who with the car as there may be an innocent explanation."
The man is described as clean shaven with little hair and wearing a tight T-short. The woman was about 30, 5ft 4ins and had light coloured hair.
Anyone with information should call CID on 01254 353569.
