A TEAM of 46 helped transform a derelict area of land into a garden in just two weeks.
The project was part of the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Prince's Trust Volunteers programme which aimed to help youngsters develop their teamwork skills and build confidence.
The team, aged 16-25, spent two weeks regenerating land behind Florence House, an old people's residential home based in Florence Street, Blackburn. Many of the volunteers had little knowledge of gardening but through research and application gained valuable experience. The garden now has a barbecue area, pavement across the lawn and many plants dispersed all around the garden.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen attended the completion of the project. Coun Michael and Moira Barrett along with Tom Finn, of Blackburn Rovers, one of the main sponsors, and representatives from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue.
