NOT drum was heard, not a funeral note, as the cultural heart was untimely ripped from a community. I refer, of course, to the closure and demolition of 'Sutty's' nightclub, in Mill Hill, Blackburn.
I suppose it is a measure of the local authorities and society in which we live that a building of such historic importance could disappear into the ether with as little account as sparrows' tears.
Might I suggest to the powers-that-be, the recommendation of a National Heritage plaque or a garden of remembrance, incorporating perhaps, some sort of bench?
