REGARDING your report (LET, July 7) on a suspected arson attack on a row of shops in Nelson town centre, having run a shop there from 1987-1993, we sold up in March this year and moved to Scotland.
Frankly, after the Grand Cinema fire, the Rose cafe fire, attempts on Lamberts Market and many other incidents, I did not want to carry on trading or educate my daughters in a town like Nelson, which is now a no-go area as far as many decent Nelsonians are concerned.
The council can spend as much money on surveys as they like, they will never attract any high-class businesses or get the good shoppers to come back. They have found better, less-threatening places to go.
