PUPILS from schools in Rossendale were commended for their work and presented with awards by the town's mayor.

Eileen Kershaw, Mayor of Rossendale, was on hand alongside judge Sue Dewhurst to award the youngsters for their work in the Rossendale Schools' Art Exhibition.

The event, which is held annually at Rossendale Museum, Whitaker Park, Rawtenstall, attracted entries from pupils attending Haslingden High School, Fears High, Tor View, Rossendale School and Belmont.

Sandra Cruise, Rossendale Museum's Curator, said: "As usual we had a very high standard of entrants which proved difficult to judge. I would like to thank everyone for taking part and producing some wonderful art work."

The pupil's art work will be on display at the museum until Sunday, August 3.
