GOVERNMENT moves to help war veterans make the journey across the Channel to mark the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings, have been welcomed by Pendle MP Gordon Prentice.
He said the plans to help with travel arrangements would be welcomed by people in his Pendle constituency.
He said: "This is a very important anniversary and I am pleased to see the Government is intending to issue a free one year passport for veterans wishing to travel to Normandy.
"I know this will be welcomed by veterans, as it is something that has been brought to my attention previously by constituents. I am also pleased to see that discussions are taking place with ferry operators to try and secure travel concessions for organised groups of veterans."
The MP added: "This will, in many cases, be the last opportunity for veterans to attend the D-Day commemoration ceremony."
