After spending as little time as possible as a model it seems the next step in your career seems to be acting.
One after the other the kings and queens of the catwalk are making moves to the silver screen and whilst it might be give superficial producers a chance to make their films more 'pleasing to the eye' there's no doubt the films are suffering as a result.
Actors are supposed to be just that and there's very few model turned actors who have come out smelling of roses. Much of the time they seem to play second fiddle to the main actors making the leads look even better than they are.
The latest to make the career switch is supermodel Vijeta Sandhu who has been signed to star opposite Sunny Deol in Jo Bole So Nihaal.
The film itself has been delayed because the original producer backed out because he thought budget was too high and the Iraq conflict meant they had to postpone shooting in USA, where most of the film is set.
Model turned actor John Abraham is on a major high after shooting a schedule for his film Aitbaar. Not because of the role he is playing but because he was starstruck by his co-star Amitabh Bachchan, with whom he is working with for the first time.
"The actor is truly amazing. It was a momentous experience shooting with him; one that I'll cherish forever," said John.
However, teenage model Shivani Kapoor has turned down the chance of making the transition to acting. She left film mogul Subhash Ghai red faced when he offered her the opportunity to act in one of his films. "Mr Subhash Ghai kept calling insistently. I had no idea who he was. He wanted to meet me. I finally told him I just didn't want to do the film," said Shivani.
Her decision is surprising considering she comes from the mighty Kapoor dynasty, which is now into its fourth generation in Bollywood.
Editor’s note: Ms Vijeta Sandhu contacted us in 2021 to advise that the article from 2003 was mistaken to say that she had ever been signed to appear in the film Jo Bole So Nihaal. We are happy to put the record straight.
