PEOPLE across East Lancashire are preparing to mark the second anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Events planned tomorrow are less marked than a year ago when the first anniversary of the World Trade Centre attacks took place, but people and organisations are still preparing to observe the occasion. The Union flag at Blackburn Town Hall will be flown at half mast during the day as a mark of respect.
The Diocese of Blackburn, which oversees Church of England parishes throughout East Lancashire, said prayers would be said at normal services. Members of Lancashire County Council will observe a minute's silence before the start of a cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Lancashire Constabulary, however, said it was not planning any special services in the county but would leave individual members of staff to decide how they marked the day.
Police officers from the police's ethnic minorities team said they were aware of a planned demonstration outside Blackburn Town Hall and would monitor it if it took place.
