DARWEN won their first NWCL Division Two game in five attempts with a 6-1 hammering of Castleton Gabriels at the Anchor Ground.

The match hung in the balance until the hosts hit four goals in the final 15 minutes to secure a flattering score-line.

Dennis Hill opened Darwen's account on six minutes after robbing a Castleton centre half and firing home before adding his second with a cute finish.

Mark Dunning slid the ball under the Darwen keeper to put the Rochdale outfit right back in the game, however from 75 minutes onwards there was only one winner.

Neil Almond scored from a cross-cum-shot, Mark Westhead converted after following up his initial saved volley from an Andy Bright cross, and dropped striker Denny Khan leapt off the bench to head into an empty net.

The best was saved for last, however, as Craig Shaw connected with a cracking half volley from a Hill corner to complete the rout.
