STEVE McMahon has made a sensational bid to bring Southampton's Accrington-born striker Brett Ormerod back to Bloomfield Road.
The Blackpool boss phoned Gordon Strachan at Southampton to ask if he could have the former Accrington Stanley hitman back on a loan basis.
However, Strachan immediately blocked the move, saying Ormerod was still part of his Premiership plans.
"I had a conversation with Gordon Strachan only last week and Brett Ormerod and another couple of players were mentioned," revealed McMahon at last night's Fans Forum.
"I dived in with two feet - perhaps it should have been one foot. But I did ask the question about Brett.
Was he in Gordon's plans? Is he available and if so would he allow him to come to Blackpool, even if it was just for a month?
"The answer was categorically 'no'. Brett was in his plans and I was told he has a part to play at Southampton."
But the question was asked.
"I was trying to get Brett to this football club because it would have given everyone such a big lift."
"I can only ask the question. There are a lot of managers that I do speak to and I ask them the same questions. A lot of doors get shut in my face.
"When I keep saying that we are trying to get football players to this club
who are better than what we've got, I genuinely mean it.
"If it means Premier League, First, Second or Third Division clubs it
doesn't matter. We are still trying, day in-day out. I'm not too proud for
people to say no to me."
