PARKSIDE Golborne opened the season in fine style with a good all round team performance for well earned victory by 40-12 over Pilkington Recs.
The score may suggest an easy win but that was never the case as they were two well drilled sides who both gave their all to the finish however Golborne had the edge in all departments.
Parkside opened the scoring on 10 minutes when hooker James Byrne forced his way over from close range for a try converted by Leon Davey who also added a penalty goal minutes later.
Parkside continued to apply the pressure territorially and added to their lead with two converted tries by stand off Davey. Full-back Michael McKnight was next on the score sheet when he linked up well to score in the corner.
A couple of errors let Pilkington's back to make it 24-12. Winger Craig Timmins raced 80 meters out of his own half out pacing the Pilkington's defence on the outside for a superb solo try. Another young player also making his Golborne open age debut was next on the score sheet when Byrne sent out a long pass to put winger Tony Spiers over in the corner. Scrum half Andy Simms crashed over to make the score 36-12 and Byrne added an other try in the last minute.
