TYLDESLEY RU kicked off its new season with all three senior sides in league action.
The first XV travelled to Kirkby Lonsdale and were unfortunate to go down 10-0. The home side drew first blood when a speculative kick to the corner bounced away from the oncoming Tyldesley defender right into the hands of the Kirkby Lonsdale winger who gathered the ball and raced in under the posts. With the conversion successful the home side went in to half time 7-0 up.
The second half saw play all in the Kirkby half. Despite being under pressure in the scrum Tyldesley had all the open play and a combination of dropped and mistimed passes began to stack up as the clock ticked away. With a minute remaining Kirkby broke out of their half and where awarded a penalty some 20 metres out which secured a slender 10-0 victory.
Tyldesley face Windermere at home on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
The Knights hosted neighbours Leigh 2nd XV in their opening North West Division Two fixture and an assured display from fly-half Ian Lysons secured a comfortable 22-0 win. Tyldesley Dragons had a visit from Kirkby Lonsdale 2nd XV for a North West Division Five clash and whre unlucky to go down by 10-0.
On Sunday Tyldesley's Under 16s entertained Sedgley Park and in good game the visitors won the game at the death by 19-12. Good performers on the day were half backs Michael Vardon and Tom Asbury. Tyldesley Under 14s also met Sedgley Park who had too much pace and experience as they ran up a 52-0 win. On a hard day there were good performances from Sheard and Corbett.
