A CONSTRUCTION contractor was fined £2,500 for tipping a lorry load of soil, clay and bricks onto a roadside verge.
MDP Site Services of Upper Dicconson Street, Wigan pleaded guilty to two charges of illegally dumping waste off Crankwood Road at Leigh.
The firm was also ordered to pay £848.63 in costs to the Environment Agency which brought the prosecution.
On January 23, Agency officers saw a tipper truck unload the waste and approached the driver, who said his name was Darren Fisher, who was employed by a company he said was sometimes known as DPM, and sometimes MDP. He said the waste had come from driveway and car park construction for Wigan Council.
MDP managing director Brian Weeks said the waste had come from a construction site in Atherton and MDP usually took such waste to a registered tip.
