WITH only two weeks to go, Blackburn's Billy Rogers has a virtually unbeatable lead in the season-long North Lancashire Time Trials Association Best All Rounder Competition based on performances over 25, 50 and 100 miles plus 12 hours.
Rogers, who rides in the colours of the Rossendale Road Club, has covered 25 miles in 56minutes, 50 miles in 1hour 52minutes, 100 miles in 4hours 4minutes and ridden 256 miles in his first-ever 12 hour time trial giving him an average speed of 24.817 mph.
Second in the table at the moment is Preston's seven times winner of this competition, George Nowland riding for the Science-in-Sport team and averaging 24.480mph, and third is Fraser Snape of Simonstone and a member of the North Lancashire Road Club with 24.381mph.
In the National version of this BAR competition, Chorley's John Morgan is in fourth place overall, Gethin Butler moves into sixth place by virtue of winning the Welsh Championship 12 hour last Sunday with 274 miles and Paul Fleming of Walton-le-Dale lies ninth with the trio now in a strong position to hold on to the team win for their Preston Wheelers club which they won in 2002.
Ian Stott of the Blackburn and District CTC racing section, is coming to excellent form in readiness for the forthcoming hillclimb season demonstrated by his win in the Altrincham Ravens 25 mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon with a time of 57min 12secs and then followed this on Sunday with a well-taken second place in the 67mile North West League Road Race at Buxton.
