CITY fan Don Price will be swapping the Blues for the desert climate of Morocco to raise money for charity.
Don, who is chairman of the Prestwich and Whitefield branch of the Manchester City Supporters Club, will certainly feel the heat as he bids to climb Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest mountain.
Father-of-two Don, of Bannerman Avenue, Prestwich, admits he was generally unfit before he took up the challenge and is an unlikely contender for such an arduous task.
He said: "I could understand someone volunteering if they kept themselves fit but I don't even go walking. I have never done anything like this before and I don't expect to do so again!"
But Don, pictured getting ready for his challenge, has been preparing for the trip by climbing Mount Snowdon and Holcombe Hill, so he feels ready to tackle Mount Toubkal.
The 49-year-old chef works as a health superintendent for Salford Mental Health NHS Trust and saw a poster for the charity trek at work.
He has already raised more than £3,500 for the Prestwich-based Children's Hospital Appeals Trust (CHAT), which will go towards providing vital medical equipment for sick babies and children.
Don said: "People think I am barmy but I have had fantastic support from the supporters club. We held a sportsman's dinner with Kevin Keegan as special guest which was successful and I have had donations from City fans."
Club members will give Don a good send off at their next meeting on Monday (September 15) as he prepares to leave for his adventure the following day.
There will be a family fun night featuring the Manchester Pipe Band, City mascots and games.
Monday's event will be held at Heaton Park Social Club, in Bury Old Road, from 7.15pm. For more information about CHAT challenges, contact Alison Raftery on 798 1600.
