FIREFIGHTERS in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale will hold a minute's silence at 11am tomorrow as part of this year's International Firefighters' Day of Remembrance.
They will be joining fire crews at stations across the UK as well as members of the public who are being encouraged to take part in the tribute.
The minute's silence will coincide with a Service of Remembrance at St Paul's Cathedral in London held by the Firefighters' Memorial Charitable Trust which since 1991 has commemorated the lives of all firefighters killed in the UK.
Lancashire's Chief Fire Officer Peter Holland said: "The Firefighters Memorial Trust has been at the forefront of commemoration of the lives of firefighters killed on duty in the UK, but the unprecedented tragedy of the loss of 343 firefighters in New York on September 11 2001 created a need to formally commemorate the contribution of all firefighters to society, at home and abroad.
"We are asking members of the public throughout the country to join us in a one minute silence on Tuesday to honour firefighters across the world on this day of remembrance. People can do so in silent tribute wherever they may be or if convenient, we would be delighted to have people join firefighters at fire stations."
