YOUNGSTERS from across Burnley are joining forces to preach the importance of breaking down social barriers in the town.

A group of around 30 teenagers have been assigned to meet once a week and discuss ways of making Burnley a better, safer and happier place to be.

The Breaking Barriers in Burnley group (BBB) will be visiting schools and youth clubs to tell the community how the diverse needs of the community can be met.

Youngsters aged between 13 and 19 from Brunshaw, Burnley Wood, Burnley Youth Theatre, Stoneyholme, Burnley Boys Club, Healey Wood and Top o'th Town are all involved in the project.

Bea Foster, Youth and Community Voluntary Sector Co-ordinator, said: "Young people from a cross section of communities in Burnley will discuss issues that are important to them.

"They are breaking down barriers that stop us living together in harmony whether it be territorial, colour or prejudice."

An official launch is being held at the Clarets Foundation Lounge, Burnley Football Club, on Monday, October 13, from 7.30pm.
