MEMBERS of the Fence Women's Institute will be doing their own rendition of the Calendar Girls when they turn up to the film donning the famous WI wear.

But the women won't be preserving their modesty with just fruit and Belgian buns -- they will be relying on black attire and pearl jewellery to do the job.

The women came up with the idea of dressing like original WI members after the film was premiered in Preston last week. They are hoping their antique attire will help raise awareness and possibly attract new members to the institute.

The Fence members will be going to watch the all-star cast, including Helen Mirren, Julie Walters, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Annette Crosby, Linda Bassett, Philip Glenister, Ciaran Hinds, Geraldine James and John Anderton, who will tell the story of the famous Yorkshire Women's Institute members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for leukaemia research.

Organiser Patricia Holdsworth, a Women's Institute Committee Member, said: "At the last committee meeting the idea was put forward because it would be the perfect time and give us the opportunity to promote our branch of the Women's Institute.

"It's all a bit of fun. We won't be collecting money, it's just all about raising awareness and letting people know what we do and that we are here if people want to get involved.

"I have asked all members to dress in black and pearls just like the original members did, which will hopefully make people want to find out what we are doing."

The women will be at the booking desk at Burnley Cinema, Manchester Road, at 5.30pm on Monday night before going to see the film at 6pm.
