STAN Ternent has backed Andy Todd to bounce back from the costly mistake that sent Burnley spinning to defeat at Norwich.

The on-loan Blackburn defender was a rock until he was caught trying to dribble his way out of trouble and Peter Crouch struck at Carrow Road.

Veteran City striker Iwan Roberts added an injury time clincher to complete a miserable trip to Norfolk for Ternent's troops.

But the Clarets boss had a comforting word for Todd, and is confident his experienced stopper will restore wounded pride against Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

Ternent said: "It was a disappointing result, but I felt we played quite well and there was nothing to choose between the two sides.

"There was an error made by Andy, but he will make a lot better decisions than that because he's a quality player. Sometimes that can happen, and in the end, I thought 2-0 flattered Norwich big style."

Ternent was particularly perplexed by referee Clive Penton's decision not to award the Clarets a penalty in first half stoppage time, when Luke Chadwick went down after colliding with Gary Holt with the game still scoreless.

Penton also riled the visiting camp by handing out four needless bookings and awarding a host of petty fouls in a stop-start game that never rose above competitive.

Ternent added: "The side is stronger, there is a better balance and is playing quite well.

"We created a few opportunities but it didn't run for us and we had an absolute bang-to-rights penalty turned down.

"I couldn't hear a muffle in the ground and the only people that didn't see it was the linesman and the referee.

"He (Chadwick) is in the box, clean through and when he went down, there wasn't a noise in the ground and the place was like a morgue. It was a ridiculous decision and, of course, goals change games.

"But it's no good crying about referee's because they are all useless - or near enough. Some of the decisions they give - or don't give, are mind blowing and it's just frustrating.

"I don't want anything I don't feel we are entitled to, but I have to grin and bear it because I haven't got enough money to have a go!"

Meanwhile, Todd and his team mates look set to go head-to-head with former Clarets striker Gareth Taylor tomorrow night. The Welsh international has yet to start a game for Forest since making the £500,000 switch to the City Ground last month and overcoming the eye injury sustained at Burnley in pre-season.

But after another ex-Claret, David Johnson, broke his leg in two places in Saturday's 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday, Taylor was thrown into the fray as a 13th minute replacement.

And Taylor now looks a surefire starter as the Clarets look to get back to winning ways at Turf Moor.

GLEN Little must wait for his Premiership debut after missing Bolton's clash with Middlesbrough due to a groin strain.

The on-loan Clarets winger has been ruled out for 10 days, leaving him just one game against Wolves to impress Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce before his month at the Reebok expires.

But Clarets boss Stan Ternent has allayed fears that Little's setback could now spell the early end of loan spells at Turf Moor for Trotters duo Gareth Farrelly and Delroy Facey.

Ternent said: "I hope Glen's injury isn't too bad because he has waited a long time for the opportunity to play in thee Premiership.

"But both Bolton lads are here on a month's loan with Glen going the other way and towards the end of the month, we'll find out where we are up to."
