TWO men were arrested minutes after emerging from the wreckage of an overturned car.

The Renault Clio, which is believed to have failed to obey a give-way sign, collided with a car and flipped on to its roof before hitting two parked vehicles in Gardner Road, Prestwich, at 5.50pm on Friday.

Both the driver and his passenger were detained at the scene by police in connection with an earlier alleged attempted robbery.

The 19-year-old driver, from Prestwich, sustained a hairline fracture of the skull and was treated at North Manchester General Hospital.

His passenger, also aged 19 and from Prestwich, suffered shock but declined hospital treatment.

Police say the Clio had been travelling along Arthur Street and after failing to obey the give way sign, drove across Gardner Road and collided with a Mazda car.

The Clio overturned before hitting a Volkswagen Golf and Datsun Sunny, both of which were parked. Police discovered the Golf was a stolen vehicle.

The 24-year-old male driver of the Mazda, who lives in Prestwich, escaped injury as did his 25-year-old male passenger from Rossendale.
