FORMER pupils and staff are being urged to return to their old school to help celebrate its 50th birthday.

Lammack Primary School in Blackburn is celebrating its half-century anniversary with two special days.

The first is a big family barbecue on Saturday, September 20. This runs from 5pm to 8pm and everyone is welcome.

Then on Thursday, September 25 the school is holding an open day.

All past pupils and staff are being invited to go to the school and see how much it has changed since they attended and to reminisce about their memories.

They will be given a guided tour by the pupils.

Displays will show how the school has changed through the decades.

On Monday and Friday of the celebratory week. pupils will be dressing-up in 1950s costume and learning 1950s pop songs and activities.

Headteacher Mary Lewisis in charge of the 480 pupils.

She said: "The school has almost doubled in size.

It is a very different place.

"But Lammack has always had a tradition of excellence, well-motivated children and that is true today.

"We are looking forward to it very much."
