A COUPLE in Prestwich had their car and other valuables stolen by masked carjackers armed with a metal bar and a large wrench.

The man and woman had stopped their Audi A4 on Hope Road at about 10.10pm on Monday when a dark coloured vehicle pulled up alongside them.

Three men, all wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, got out of the car and threatened the couple with the weapons.

They demanded the car keys and forced the terrified pair out of the vehicle.

The carjackers also made the woman hand over her £700 Rotary watch, the couple's mobile phones and some cash.

Two men then got into the Audi and drove away, followed by the other car.

The silver Audi A4, registration MJ52 NSZ, has not yet been found.

A police spokesperson said: "This was an extremely frightening experience for the victims, but thankfully they were not injured in any way.

"Shortly before this incident two men were disturbed looking into an Audi car on Hilton Crescent, and a red Toyota Celica was seen nearby. It is possible that this is linked to the robbery of the couple's car.

"Officers are appealing to anyone who saw the red Toyota Celica or anything suspicious in the area that evening to get in touch.

"They are also appealing for anyone who may have seen the stolen car since the robbery to come forward."

Anyone with any information surrounding this incident is asked to contact the CID at Whitefield on 0161 856 8240 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
