A TEENAGER has fallen six floors to her death while on holiday in Cyprus.
Caroline Booth, 19, whose family live in Ambleside Drive, Darwen, fell from the balcony at the Eden Beach Hotel Apartments, Limassol, at about 1pm last Thursday.
She was believed to be eight days into a 14-day holiday with her boyfriend. Her sister lives on the island.
According to eye-witness reports, Caroline's sister tried to hold on to her but her efforts were in vain and she plunged to the ground.
Caroline was taken to hospital but was found to be dead on arrival. Police in Limassol, the island's second largest city, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
They have refused to release any further details out of respect for Caroline's family.
The Eden Beach Hotel Apartments, situated just yards from the Mediterranean, are described as being the ideal holiday location.
Only 500 metres from the commercial centre of Limassol and a stroll from the public gardens and zoo, the apartments are described as being the perfect central point, close to nightlife, a choice of restaurants, taverns and bars or daytime watersports.
Manageress Theofanigou Yianna, said Caroline checked into the hotel, with her boyfriend, on September 3.
Ms Yianna said she believed Caroline was visiting her sister, who is married to a Cypriot.
She said: "They were a very quiet couple. We were not aware of any incidents leading up to this and we weren't able to speak to any members of her family afterwards.
"We are fully booked at this time of year. I believe the incident was witnessed by her sister and her sister's husband."
A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm that a 19-year-old called Caroline Booth was certified dead on September 11 after falling from the balcony of a hotel in Limassol in Cyprus.
"The next of kin have been informed and our consular service in Cyprus and in the United Kingdom are doing all they can to assist the family."
The spokeswoman said she was unable to provide further details of the incident.
Caroline's family were today too upset to comment.
