BLACKBURN Hawks still lead the way at the top of the ENHL (North) despite a 6-2 defeat at Sheffield.

Sheffield did their best to dethrone the Hawks with a commanding display, yet Bobby Haig's side sit above nearest challengers Nottingham and Whitley on goal difference.

The Yorkshire hosts began the fixture with a three goal blitz in the first period as Smith (2) and Fleming managed to find a way past Blackburn 'keeper Colin Downie.

Haig pulled a goal back before Ashton and Farrand extended Sheffield's lead in the second period.

An Adam Leaver goal gave the Hawks hope in the third period, however Ross responded to seal the home side's victory.

The Hawks returned to winning ways at the Arena on Sunday with a close 3-2 success over Paisley Pirates - albeit in a Challenge match.

David Sheffield put Hawks in front while Thorpe levelled matters in the second period.

The Scottish visitors moved into the lead with an effort from Murray however a third period brace from Haig topped off an excellent fight-back.
