LEIGH Harriers RL picked up their first win of the season - 27-14 - at Heysham Atoms.
A Mick Leach try got things under way for the Harriers after a strong burst down the right flank. A set move from the base of the scrum saw Paul Sanderson stroll in untouched for an 8-0 lead. Two penalties from Heysham saw the Harriers lead 8-4 at half-time.
After the restart, hooker Paul Hayes capped a fine display by scooting in from short range. Dootson goaled. A converted Heysham try brought the game to 14-10. Dootson relieved some pressure by slotting over a drop goal. Substitute Craig Fairclough proved a handful for the home team, and following a flowing move from inside the Harriers own half, he touched down in the corner. Dootson once again successful with the boot. Man of the match Danny Galvin sealed the victory for the Harriers after a strong burst by loose forward, Neil Basset.
