SOMETIMES in life, comforting words don't help. I was so looking forward to last weekend and finally finding out what the Premiership was all about, when disaster struck.
I felt as though I've been flying this season. My pre-season has been the best I've ever had and I've not missed a single days training since July.
I arrived at Bolton and felt I showed people what I was capable of doing in an enjoyable 10 days there.
I even spoke to the assistant manager, Phil Brown, who told me I would be on the bench against Middlesbrough.
Then, on Friday, I tweaked my groin in training and I knew straight away what that meant. It was a massive disappointment as I'm sure you can imagine, and even though Phil has been reassuring me and saying how unfortunate the injury was, it doesn't help.
Injuries are the worst thing in football by a country mile, but when you are looking forward to a big game, they hit you even harder.
Now everything is out of my hands. All I can do is have the treatment, do the rehabilitation and pray for a quick recovery.
I'm assured this type of injury can settle down within a week, or stretch out over a fortnight.
It's just a waiting game, but it certainly rules me out for the weekend game against Newcastle at St James' Park.
That would have been some game to be involved in, but now my aim has to be to make the squad for the game against Wolves the following week.
As it stands, that would be my last game before the loan period ends, but Phil has been an absolute rock and is trying to keep my spirits up.
He tells me the gaffer has been impressed by things he has seen from me in training and I certainly feel I've fitted in well with the quality players Bolton undoubtedly have.
We haven't actually sat down and discussed anything about a possible extension yet, but I'm staying positive and at the moment, that's all I can do.
In the meantime, I managed to pop along to see the lads in action against Forest the other night and I was impressed by the two Bolton lads. They both look to be settling in well and Delroy Facey had a particularly good game, I thought.
Most of the Bolton lads have been asking how Delroy and Gareth have been doing on loan and they both looked like they were enjoying playing first team football again.
I thought we were unlucky on Tuesday in a strange game. The lads played some lovely stuff at times and it certainly wasn't a 3-0 hiding as the scoreline might suggest.
Forest were far more clinical in the final third and, although Delroy was unlucky a few times and Ian Moore looked unfortunate to have a goal ruled offside, it's all about scoring goals.
If you don't capitalise on pressure by putting the ball in the net, you are going to be in trouble and it looks like, for the moment, the lads just aren't getting the breaks.
